What is included in the day hunt bird package?

 *Half Day Hunt 

 *Selection of hearty snacks, refreshments, & beverages post hunt. 

 *Bird Cleaning & Packaging

 *Private Reserved Field w/water service.

 *If guided hunt - professional guide with pointing and flush dogs.

Do you provide hunting guides and dogs?

*Yes, Feathered Forest offers experienced hunting guides with trained bird dogs for both quail and pheasant hunts. Our guides work with pointing and flushing dogs and are there to help make your hunt safe, successful, and enjoyable—whether you’re an experienced upland hunter or it’s your first time.

Can I bring my own bird dog?

 *Yes, you can absolutely book a self-guided hunt with your own bird dogs. If your dog is young or still learning, we recommend booking a guided hunt first to help your dog gain valuable experience in the field. Once you and your dog are ready, you're welcome to enjoy a self-guided hunt.

Do I need to be a member to hunt?

*You do not need to be a member to hunt - to view pricing for day hunts and to check availability visit our "Book a Hunt" page. Hunts at the Feathered Forest consist of day hunts, member hunts, corporate hunts, and avid hunters as well. Every group, whether member or day hunter, will always have their own private hunting field.

Day of Hunt​

​When do I arrive and what should I bring?

 *8:30am (arrival time for AM hunt) or 12:30pm (arrival time for PM hunt) 

 *Gratuity - cash or venmo accepted for guide/staff. (20% of each bird package price is customary)

 *While we do not serve a plated lunch, we provide a generous selection of hearty snacks and     refreshments for you to enjoy while at the Feathered Forest. 

        - Recommended nearby lunch spots: Sam's Table, Cafe Texan, Papa Lachos, The Big E-Z,

           Closest - Pit Stop Cafe (Bedias), a ton of fast food/chain restaurants in Hunstville as well.

 *Fluorescent orange clothing is required. (eye & ear protection is recommended).

 *Each hunter & observer must sign the liability waiver prior to hunt. 
 *TPWD hunting license w/upland bird endorsement & photo ID.

 *Hunters under 18 years of age are required to be accompanied by a parent/guardian with a signed liability waiver and be up to date on all requirements from Texas Parks & Wildlife.

 *Youth under 10 years old are recommended to be an observer. 

 *Please keep your bird dog kenneled when not hunting. 

 *A cooler to transport your birds.

What if there is rain or inclement weather forecasted for the day of my hunt?

*We monitor weather very closely, and our goal is for you to have a successful hunt. In the case of heavy rain or a weather-related event in the forecast, the primary point of contact will be notified to reschedule the hunt.

​What size shotgun/shells do you recommend?

 *Shotgun caliber 20 gauge or 12 gauge.

 *Shot size not to exceed size No. 7.5

 * 2-3/4 inch shell

 *No chokes tighter than improved cylinder.

 *We do not sell shotguns or shells.

​What is not allowed and do you have additional rules?

 *Rifles & pistols are not allowed. 

 *Shotguns must be kept in locked vehicle until time of hunt. 

 *No alcohol consumption before or during hunt.

 *Bird dogs must be kept in a kennel when not in the field hunting.

 *There is a fee for non-hunter observers in the field (non-members only)
